Agritourism project proposed in Gozo

An agritourism project along Marsalforn road in Xaghra, Gozo could become the first beneficiary of a policy allowing agri tourism development in the countryside. The development is set to include a shop, a winery, tourist accommodation, and other ancillary facilities as being proposed by Ta’ Mena Estates and will be interspered over a 43,995 square metre site in the Ta’ Srug area of Xaghra (as declared in planning application presented to MEPA on 25 August),most of which will be retained for agricultural purposes. But the owners have also declared owning 68 tumoli in the area, thus fulfilling the parameters set by the new policy on agritourism which limits the development of new agri tourism accomodations to holdings larger than 60 tumoli.

Why wine will taste different from year to year

If you pick up a bottle of your favorite whiskey once every year, it will almost certainly taste the same each time. Same for other spirits and beer. These drinks are made using consistent ingredients and recipes. This isn’t the case with wine. One of your favorite wines one year may not please you at all the next. You may love one Paso Robles Syrah and try another from a different vineyard down the road and hate it. Why?

The answer helps explain why there is so much complexity to the wine world and why a wine nerd like me can spend so much time obsessing on the topic. Whether you are a fellow wine nerd or simply curious, the reasons behind wine variability provide a great window into how wine is made and why that amazing bottle is so special. There are countless variables to consider, but they fall into three main categories: nature, nurture (grower and winemaker), and the market.

Three favorite summer rosés

In the summer, nothing beats a glass of chilled rosé for me. One thing I love about rosé wines is that they are so versatile. They will go nicely with a fish, a salad, grilled chicken or pork chops, or a nice steak tartare. I also love a glass of it with a nice mozzarella pizza. Rosés also work extremely well with fruity desserts, especially those that have peach or apricot notes. You can also poach peaches or pears in rosé wine and serve them with a scoop of ice cream. Not to mention that rosés work well on their own, too! As soon as it gets warmer and sunnier, you can be sure to find a bottle of rosé in my fridge at all times. Rosé has long had a very girly image, but in my perception, that’s been changing recently. And more and more wine makers focus on creating high-quality, balanced rosé wines, so there’s a larger selection and great quality. Rosés are produced from red grapes and get their color by macerating with the grape skins (like red wines), but for a couple of hours only. The longer they are in contact with the skins, the darker the color. Rosé wines do not age in barrel, which makes them cheaper to produce. Therefore, they aren’t great for cellar aging, which means you should drink them right away instead of storing them for years – usually not a problem for me! The absolute key rule for drinking rosé (according to me) is that it has to be very well chilled. Some people even put ice cubes in them, but I usually don’t for fear of watering down the wine. You can freeze some grapes and use them for cooling instead!

Olivine Expo 2016

The title of the event Olivine expo combines the Olive and the Vine-Wine. Olive oil and wine happen to be two of my favorite topics, both to drink and to discuss. Sharing a similar history, wine and olive oil were vital commodities of the ancient world and were celebrated for their symbolic meanings – grapes as symbols of life and renewal and olive trees as symbols of longevity and health. The olive oil and wine industries are some of the fastest growing in the world. With such a true fact, we can expect the growth of these industries to continue well into the future. The event is an educational, tasting-oriented trade show promoting products all around the world.

The awards are bronze, silver, gold, and double gold medals. It’s an annual international wine competition held in Athens, where the top wine buyers, sommeliers, importers and distributors judge the wine by its category. The producers who participate can make use of any award made.

Taste Olymp Awards

The food and drink competition reward products in the form of a metal. Competition classified into different categories, and most awards are product-specific such as for pasta, meat products, honey, marmalade, cheeses; finally test all kinds of foods and drinks available to consumers on a retail basis.
